Why EBOM Is Not Equal to MBOM

Engineering BOM and Manufacturing BOM are connected, but they are not the same thing and should not be treated as if they are identical.

EBOM shows the product from the engineering perspective. MBOM shows the product from the manufacturing perspective. They are connected, but they are not the same thing.

Why they differ in real projects

  • manufacturing groups parts differently from design
  • assembly sequence matters in MBOM
  • kits, fixtures, and planning views may appear only in MBOM
  • plants need a build-oriented structure

EBOM and MBOM should be connected by logic and governance, not confused as if they are identical.
